SPIRALS AND WALLPAPER; THE PARALLELS OF AMERICAN GOTHIC TO JAPANESE HORROR MANGA

In this piece I compare the 19th century short story The Yellow Wallpaper to the contemporary Japanese horror manga (comic) Uzumaki. The work investigates the translation of gothic story elements to the modern horror manga, the validity of manga, mental health orientation in congruence to current Japanese art theory, and how the two presented stories have similar structure, perspective, and story-driven purpose.
